Playlists do not have the typical +/ban buttons you'd expect from a regular or custom channel. I recommend "Imperial March" from the Star Wars Soundtrack when traffic starts getting heavy.

It's basically like loading a custom CD, but it's good if you want to queue up specific favorites. You remember where the "cleaning mode" is in the interface, right? You're gonna need it. It only takes a few seconds, but it's a lot of screen presses. The only time playlists are refreshed is when you log in to Slacker, so to refresh the playlist you edited on your phone, you'll have to go into Settings | Apps | Media | Logout | Login. just no Barry White when you need his sweet, soulful sound to close the deal. However, I've noticed that if you favorite a specific song, you may ask it to play and it may just sit there. You cannot favorite a playlist, but you can favorite specific songs. Playlists are accessed through the Tesla media player via browse mode. So you can have a playlist consisting only of alternating copies of "Hello" by Lionel Richie and "Uptown Funk" by Mark Ronson. Slacker Premium allows you to pick not a channel based on a song but that specific song or album. The app seems to be the best at not adding duplicates and generally working better. If you use a Slacker premium account, you can create playlists from the smartphone app or the website. The usual Slacker controls work (banning / promoting an artist) but you can't do any of the other premium things, like queue up a whole album or view song lyrics. This gives you (as far as the Tesla vehicle is concerned) playlists and deeper custom channels. You can sign up for your own Slacker premium account. I have told them that it works, as indicated below.

They will also tell you that you can't use your own Premium account, because they are lying liars who lie through their lying lie holes. If you do, you get an "Error 500" on the Slacker website and their tech support will tell you this is impossible to change. You cannot upgrade this account to a Slacker Premium account. You can email Tesla tech support to get your Slacker Username and Password so you can log on to the Slacker website, mess with your channels and listen for free. I got a lot of misinformation from Slacker and very little from Tesla, so I thought I'd share all my findings so that the next time someone wants to research this, they can find it when they search. I've spend the last couple days talking to Tesla, Slacker and /u/GeekLad working on making Slacker a better streaming audio solution.
